Kara
Pilot Error, the words rang in Kara's ears over and over. Zak had died because of Pilot Error. She shuddered slightly in her seat at the inquest, Commander Adama next to her, he took her hand and gave it a gentle squeeze causing her to wince slightly. It had been pilot error that had killed Zak only the error was hers not his, she should never have passed him, it was her responsibility, she was the reason he was dead. Holding back the tears was hard but she fought not wanting to lose control, not here, not now in front of all these people. She bit down on her bottom lip drawing blood, trying to blot out the rest of the words. She knew all she needed to know, Zak, her Zak was dead and it was her fault.
Adama
Bill sat stoically in the inquest his face set like stone. His son was dead, Pilot Error. It seemed incredible to him that his boy was dead because of pilot error, his child was dead because of a mistake. He felt the blonde woman next to him shudder and he grasped her hand in a mutual sign of comfort. As he looked on at the proceedings he didn't really hear the words instead he heard the harshness in Lee's at the funeral as he told him it was his fault that Zak was dead, that he, his father had sent him to his death by pushing him into flight school. It wasn't what he said but how he said it that remained, cold, harsh, unforgiving. He stifled a sigh feeling that the day Zak died he had lost both his sons although Lee had been gone a long time before that. Zak had died of pilot error, could that error have been his?
Lee
Lee sat at the back his eyes flicking over the people there, up front he could see his father and Kara, his brothers fiancée together, much as they had been since the day Zak had died. He watched them for a moment almost glad his father had finally met her, Zak had kept her hidden from the rest of the family for a long time before his eyes narrowed remembering why they were there. He looked up at the panel, Pilot Error, Zak Adama died because he had made an error. Lee shook his head knowing that although the final one was Zak's it was one made long before that had killed him. He wondered if there was anything he could have done, something he could have said to persuade Zak to follow a different path, follow his own dream not the Old Man's but Zak was set on pleasing him. Yes the error was Zak's but it wasn't the one that had killed him it was the one he made the day he pulled on his flight suit.
