Spoilers/Disclaimers:

Some say the ultimate price is to die in defense of those you love, or for that which you believe in. After the past few weeks, I have to say, they are terribly, terribly wrong. Living after everyone else has died is the Ultimate Price. You live, you remember, and you must carry on in spite of everything that has occurred, because if you do not, then humanity will not.

Everyone's face reminds me of a person I once knew, who I will see no longer. Voices of people I don't even know, remind me of those I once did. In the living, I see the dead, and I must wonder if there will ever come a day, that I will simply see the living.

I ask myself every time I see my own face in the mirror, what makes me so special, why did I live when others, those better than me did not? Every time I fail to come up with an answer, but obviously there is some reason, and for that I will never take that next step. Which according to my classes back at school is wondering why I go on.

I know the answer to that one. It is to pay the Ultimate Price, because someone has to. Without people willing to pay it, day in and day out, all the other payments made in the name of life, the name of freedom are forgotten. Someone has to remember, even when the remembering brings only pain and sorrow.

I see it in their eyes sometimes, less now that the Commander has given his speech, given us the hope of earth. Still though there are those haunted few that I know, know. We have a silent brotherhood, those of us that understand, and that makes things easier sometimes, harder at others.

So I carry on under that invisible burden, continue to pay. With every day of my life I pay into that fund that is the Ultimate Price.
