Part 1: Laura Roslin decided that it was time to talk to Starbuck. Get to know the lady who somehow had the Adama men under her spell. Starbuck might be a bit brash and have quite the reputation on Battlestar Gallactica, but there was more to Kara Thrace that met the eye. From what Laura saw and heard of Kara Thrace, she knew that Kara would be a worthy opponent in a game with high stakes!
Laura went out of her way to find Starbuck. Lee had mentioned something to her about how Lt. Thrace liked to jog in the morning. So after one of Laura's early morning visits to the Doctor, she decided to explore the ship to find the young blonde. Luckily she found Kara finishing her jog and on her way to the head for her morning shower.
"Good morning Lt. Thrace. " Laura greeted the radiant girl.
"Good morning President Roslin." Kara replied slowing down her fast stride.
"Can I have a word with you? Do you have time to have breakfast with me? If needed I can make the arrangements with the CAG." Laura asked smiling, her smile that she used with her school children, especially the ones that were full of mischief.
"I could manage that since my shift is later this afternoon. I was planning on doing some weight training, but that can wait. Just let me have a shower and I'll meet you here in say 10 … 15 minutes tops!" Kara said smiling her mega watt smile.
"Excellent. I will be right here waiting." Laura sat down at a bench along the wall. Everything was working out just as planned!
Kara was curious and wanted to know why this beautiful woman, who was now the President wanted not only talk to her, but also have breakfast with her. This would be an excellent time for her to check out the other woman that seemed to be spending more time with Lee. Not that it should bother Kara, since Lee was only her friend. Even so Kara was a little jealous of Laura and how she had managed to find a spot in Lee's life.
Kara walked into Lee, just as she was thinking that last thought. He was all wet and looking damn hot leaving the head. "Hey watch where you're going Hot Stuff!" Kara said grinning, moving back giving Lee some space.
"Some one could say the same to you!" Lee grinned back. "What's the hurry anyhow, you just missed the show!"
"You wish! No I have a breakfast date with your girlfriend, the Pres." Kara said while tapping him on his well-toned arm.
"Really? I wonder why Laura would like to spend time with you! And for the record she is just a friend!"
"Ok… what ever you say, but I think that Laura likes them young, I mean she is a former teacher after all."
"You should know all about that then! I guess you do have something in common then." Lee replied grinning, while leaning back avoiding a possible attack from Starbuck
"You know you can be a prick at times, what ever she sees in you is beyond me." Kara retorted. She resisted in giving Lee what he was asking for. Kara knew that he was only joking and making his own attempt to get back at her for making comments on his budding friendship and crush on the Pres.
" I was only joking Kara." Lee said while giving his best attempt at a penitent little boy asking for forgiveness.
"Sorry Lee, I guess I was asking for it, with that remark. " Kara said, while placing her hand on his head and began to play with his hair. Lee was trying to ignore this gesture and all too soon Kara took her hand away.
"Kara try to be nice, she is a great listener. Who knows maybe you two can become friends. " Lee said trying to maintain his composure.
" Ok Lee, I'll try. Laura does seem nice and I do admire her strength in taking over the role of President. She sure knows how to handle the Adama men!" Kara replied while noticing Lee blush slightly. He was so adorable when he did that!
"See another thing you two have in common! Anyhow I got to run, take your time Lt! I am looking forward to your report on the dinner! Remember to be nice!" Lee said thinking, wonderful she noticed that blush.
"Thanks for your vote of confidence commander, see you later. " Kara said laughing and slapping his back as he pasted her.
Kara then proceeded to have her shower.
A clean and neatly dressed Kara approached Laura and presented her with a gift of her coveted wine that she managed to win off Baltar.
"Hope that you weren't waiting too long. I ran into our friend Lee and he reminded me to be nice! He also said to take our time, so I thought what a great chance, Laura to make use of this wine." Kara smiled, her smile that she kept for authority figures such as her teachers.
Laura took the wine in one hand and placed her elbow in Kara's " Well Kara, let's be off I think that we will have a good time, and for the record I promise to be nice too!" Laura said while smiling and thinking that this was too easy! She could handle herself with Starbuck. Laura was beginning to like Kara's company and could see why Lee was taken with her.
It was quite the sight to see the dignified President walk by with the cocky head viper pilot on her elbow.
Lee chuckled to himself while watching the two beautiful women walk by, not noticing him as they were laughing at something. "I wonder what Laura is up to." Lee knew that both women were strong – willed, independent and the Lords only knew what chaos the two of them could bring to anyone in their way. Somehow Lee felt that he would be part of their discussion! Part of him felt honored, but a bit nervous on the outcome of this possible friendship developing. Laura might be a great influence for Kara. Kara needed some good female role models. Kara also might be just what Laura needs while fighting the battle for her life. Lee was also jealous that both of them might be spending time that he might spend with either of them.
Lee headed off, shaking his head, to the CIC, thinking. "Wait till my father hears this one!"
Kara and Laura were having a relaxed meal and were enjoying each other's company and discussions. Laura leaned across and smiling said… "Now I can see why Lee and William, were hell bent on finding you. They were fighting everyone including myself and Saul to keep the search going, even once it appeared helpless. To think if I did know you then, it would have been all up to Saul to talk some sense into all of us! Regardless you were able to defy the odds and come back in such a glorious manner, in a Cylon fighter ship of all things!"
Kara was extremely touched by this remark; she realized that Lee and William had been trying their best to find her. But she didn't know to what extent. She felt once more that she had finally found a sense of home even now with their world gone.
"Thanks Laura, I would do the same for you! Lee is right you are a great woman. I can learn a lot from you. Now if you repeat that to anyone, I will just have to deny it and come and kick your arse."
Kara said while laughing and taking a big swig of the coveted wine. "Do you think that we should leave some of this wine for our friend Lee?"
"Hmm… we'll see, we might need some more after I bring up the intended protocol of this meeting." Laura said trying to keep a straight face. This was so much fun. She missed having her friends from her college days. She couldn't help but think about the daughter that she miscarried back then. She would have been a little younger than Kara now. She knew that Kara would be someone that she would feel comfortable telling about her battle with Cancer. Not yet though, she had other plans for her. Laura would try to give her something before this happened and she would have fun in doing it!
"Do tell all, mighty Madame President, what is the reason behind our soirée?" Kara said while making a crude bow to Laura."
"Well, I hear Starbuck, that you are the best gambler in the fleet and now galaxy. I have a bet I want to place with you!" Laura said grinning, leaning in closer to Starbuck. I have the legend Starbuck eating out of my hand.
"So what does it involved and what are the stakes?" Kara said looking intrigued and interested. I can take the Pres on thought Starbuck!
"Well it has to do with our good friend, Lee. We both know that he is handsome, adorable, honorable and we both like him! You can't deny it girl, I see it on your face, you fancy him. So do I. He is a great man, and I do think that he likes both of us. Anyways, here are the stakes; we can work out the details after you agree. We are going to seduce and try to break down Apollo's will power and see whom he kisses first. "
