I can’t let go of what my childhood friend Fay Machree has told me. Zak and Mom used to called what’s happening to me a 'sensory rush'. They called it that because in some ways it is like an adrenaline rush. As a young child sensory stimulation, some times caused me to hyper-focus or fixate. I’d see relationships and probabilities in a variety of things. The downside of these highly focused periods were fatigue, headache and a let down feeling. In addition I found that unless you can completely explain how you got from point A to point B, you are not believed, and are thought crazy.
As an adult, I avoid these incidents. The last time was on Judgment Day. I prevented the captains or bridge crews of FTL ships from telling the slower ships our destination. I plotted the FTL jump and displacements for all the civilian ships. There was so much chaos, I don’t think anyone noticed that it was a very complex task or that I was the one who did it.
I know Fay has seen something on the Delphi Moon that is a danger to her and maybe the fleet. I need to figure out how to investigate without anyone suspecting that I take what Fay says seriously or the connections my mind makes.
I return to the shuttle and contact the Galactica. I talk to Captain Kelly who is head of security and then to Colonel Tigh. I tell them I overheard some a rumor about sabotage on the Delphi Moon. I recommend that I check it out, if nothing else we will see if the anti-sabotage procedures Tigh ordered are in place. Tigh approves the plan.
Then I radio CIC and have the nearest viper patrol redeployed to examine the hull of the Delphi Moon. “They are to look for anything unusual, especially near the escape pods, and anything with an orange color,” I instruct.
I act like this is routine. I call Captain Avery and advise him that his vessel has been selected to test the new anti sabotage procedures. The Delphi Moon’s Captain is proud of his crew and the attention from the Galactica. The ships schematics are laid out for my review. I locate escape pod 103 and the escape pods near cabin 301. With two of the Delphi Moons engineers we head for escape pod 103. They open a hatch and find a device with an orange light. One of the engineers recognizes it as a long distance signal booster. The engineers disable the device. I head for Fay’s cabin as soon as I can.
When reach her cabin I find the door open. Mrs. Machree is being attacked. Thankfully I’m armed. I’m able to stop the attack and capture the intruder. Captain Avery sends two of the Delphi Moon’s security guards to remove Doral’s bearded twin in handcuffs. The Captain is grateful to me for catching the Saboteur. I ask him to provide protection for Fay and her mother in case Doral was not acting alone.
Captain Kelly is sending a security team to pick up Doral and the device. He will make a detailed sweep of the ship to make sure there are no other unauthorized communications devices on board. The vipers have located several non-standard devices near the Delphi Moon’s Escape pods. Kelly suspects that Cylon agents had turned the Delphi Moon into an intermittent long-range beacon.
I say goodbye to Fay. I tell that I hope to see her soon. I tell her that she has been very clever and brave. I make sure she knows how proud I am of her.
Upon landing on the Galactica, I head straight for CIC to check in with Tigh. Tigh makes a call and the two of us head for the Commanders quarters. After the usual formalities I recount the events on the Delphi Moon. I pause realizing that I have to tell the Commander about Fay.
“Sir, my old friend, Fay Machree had seen a device with an orange light put in an escape pod 103. Fay was afraid. She didn’t know who would listen to hear so she came to me. I was simply following up on a report of suspicious activity. I thought a test of the new procedures would be subtle way to deal with the problem. But as you know I went to school with some exceptional children when I was young. Fay has certain limitations; I’m one of a few people with whom she can communicate,” I say.
“The man who tried to kill Mrs. Machree and Fay bares a striking resemblance to Doral. Fay believes that human Cylons are within the fleet. She suggests that we look for twins and other look a likes. I recommend that the prisoner be tested to see if he is a Cylon and if he is a duplicate of Doral,” I pause. I can see that this statement does not surprise the Commander and Tigh.
“So there are human looking Cylons hiding with the fleet,” I ask.
“We believe that Doral was a Cylon. We believe that there are a limited number of models,” the Commander says.
“Fay also believes that some of these agents are not aware that they are Cylons and are completely integrated into society. In addition she believes that at least one human has been brainwashed and is under the control of a Cylon. She referred to the Cylon brainwasher as Six. The human victim believes that he and Six are in love or at least that Six loves him,” I say. “Fay’s information was accurate about the devices. I can’t explain how Fay got her information. But based on the accuracy of devices and Doral, her information should be taken seriously.”
“This is the first we have heard about sleeper agents and brainwashing of humans, Thank you, Captain,” the Commander says.
“Captain, This information will cause panic when it becomes known the fleet. Until now only Tigh, Dr. Salik, Dr. Baltar and I knew,” the Commander replies. “This information is top secret. You will not discuss this information outside this room without express instructions from Colonel Tigh or myself. Do you understand?”
“Yes, Sir,” I reply.
“If there is nothing else you are dismissed”
“Sir, there’s the issue of Fay’s safety. I asked Captain Avery to provide protection for her and her mother. But under the circumstances will that be enough?” I ask.
“We can’t afford to draw attention to these incidents. The precautions you have already asked for are appropriate. Your friend Fay and her mother will stay where they are,” the Commander replies.
“Sir, Given Fay’s limitations I think I need to discuss the need of secrecy with her personally,” I recommend. “Once she understands, Fay will not intentionally betray a secret, but she is vulnerable.”
“Very well, but make your visit to the Machrees secondary to a follow up visit to Captain Avery. We need to understand what effect this event has on the crew and passengers. In addition you will not change your inspections of the civilian ships. Now that you have disrupted a Cylon plot and captured one of their agents your life is in danger every time you leave the Galactica. I’m very sorry,” the Commander says.
“Goodnight Sir, Good Night Colonel,” I say.
“Good night son,” the Commander says.
Nothings changed. I’m exhausted. I have a raging headache. I feel like I haven’t done enough. My inspection schedule is now way behind. I need to meditate and sleep before my head falls off. Hopefully catching the saboteur and finding the devices will be seen as enough excitement to justify my fatigue, headache and bad mood.
