Lee and Kara P.O.V’s. Angst, lots of angst.
Spoilers/Disclaimers:
“Why’d you do it Kara, just, just tell me why?” Lee spoke calmly though his blood was boiling. He couldn’t understand how Kara, his best friend, could have slept with a man like Gaius Baltar.
Kara stood across from him, cold and uncomfortable. She remained silent, breathing in slow, deliberate breaths, looking down at her feet as she contemplated what to say. When she decided on which avenue to take, she slowly lifted her face, looking at Lee with fire in her eyes. “Because I’m a screw up, Lee, just keep that in mind,” Kara replied, no hint of sarcasm in her voice.
Lee was getting angry now. Kara had asked Lee if he would miss her. “I need all my pilots, even the screw ups,” Lee had said. He was short with her and it made Kara furious. She just looked at him and stalked away from Lee, who could practically feel the steam radiating from her onto him.
Lee shut his eyes and sighed. He knew it had been stupid to say all that; knew that Kara wasn’t going to let him off the hook. She had hit him and he had hit her back, damn it. He was so angry with her he had hit her. “My Gods,” Lee thought. He had hit a woman. In all the years he’d known her, Lee had never thought of Kara as womanly. Even when she was engaged to Zak, Lee had thought of Kara as ‘just one of the guys.’ Still, after hitting her, after watching her walk away when he’d been an ass, Lee felt something change inside of him. A pit was growing painfully in his stomach, gnawing at him. Lee’s eyes burned; his mind replaying the day’s events over and over again. He wanted to run and grab Kara and tell her the truth. “I would miss you,” Lee said under his breath. “Damn it, I would miss you…” Lee said to the direction he’d seen Kara walk away. But now there was nothing but him.
Kara was gone, and Lee felt it in his heart. He’d never known such pain.
Before she left, Kara stomped towards her bunk, violently running her hands through her hair. “I hate him, I hate him, I hate him,” Kara thought, angrily. Tears threatened to spill out all over her face but Kara furiously swallowed them back, her face growing redder each time she did so.
This would NOT weaken her. She would not give in to her emotions. She’d never felt such a burst of emotions and she was angered by the fact that this was all due to men, and Adama men at that. One she had viewed as a father figure had lied to her; he had lied to everyone. The other…well, where should she start? Lee was stubborn, yes, and he was her CAG. But he’d always been her friend, too. At least she had thought so, until this moment.
Kara had told herself that she could see glimpses of feelings in Lee that she’d had for him recently, and yet, their last discussion had blown any hope she’d had of a future with him out of the sky. Because Lee didn’t care for her the way she cared for him. Kara could feel the tears beginning to sting in her eyes, and still, she held them back. She’d wanted to tell him the truth. That her tryst with Baltar meant nothing…that she’d called out Lee’s name and had pretended it was Lee she was with. That above all else, she had wanted it to be Lee she was making love to. She had wanted to tell him, but her anger had gotten the better of her. And now she was leaving. She opened her locker and looked at the picture of herself with Zak…and Lee.
Kara angrily groaned as one tear slipped down her face. Smacking it away, Kara ripped the picture off of the locker, and ripped Lee from the picture. Looking at the two pieces in her hands, Kara finally gave in to her emotions and cried. She kissed the picture of Zak and plastered it back on her locker door. The picture of Lee she held tightly in her hand as she slammed the locker shut. Gathering herself, Kara took a deep breath and walked out of the room quickly, turning towards the way to the landing bay where the Cylon ship lay.
Her grip tightened around Lee’s picture as she broke into a run. She’d never known such pain.
