Laura inherited her disease and she inherited the position of President. She doesn’t want to inherit anymore. All you gain is loss. She’s always wanted a quiet life, maybe a farm somewhere on Caprica. Maybe a few pets; she never wanted children or a partner; she treasures her solitude; likes her self-reliance.
Then the world burst into flames.
And as Laura sits in her make-shift office staring at Baltar’s report on how to expose Cylons who have infiltrated the fleet, she realizes that mistakes are still being made, that they still don’t know if they have survived yet – if the Cylons are as ambitious and adventurous as their human creators – then this may only be the beginning. But Roslin has hope that one day humanity will find peace, find a way of putting the past to rest and that when they settle on another planet and call it ‘Earth’, then she’ll get her farm, maybe a few pets… and live the quiet life.
