You will always be my son

Even now you are a man

As your father I’ll always support you

Anyway way in which I can

I did not expect to see you

On that fateful day

I know if it was your choice

You would have stayed away

You felt that I pushed you to fly

Because you were my son

Don’t you realize I’d be proud

No matter what you had done

I tried to reach out to you

But it was clear with a single glance

That you were still not prepared

To give me half a chance

I know you hold me responsible

For events that happened in the past

Strange the way resentment

Still finds a way to last

Then something changed

What I still do not know

You took a step to meet me

Though we have still a long way to go

We began working together

Found some common ground

To hear you call me father

Was such a wonderful sound

Sadly life keeps moving

There’s nowhere we can hide

I felt I had no option

But to make you choose a side

It wasn’t that I wanted you to side with me

Nor to force your hand

I just believe you needed

To know exactly where you stand

Life can be so cruel

With the choices we must make

You had to understand

The road you’re going to take

Now that you have chosen

I can truly see

At last you really know

The man you want to be

Please always do remember

That no matter what you do

Nothing will ever change
