It wasn’t a good day

Just a duty to be done

A role to be played to the crowd

Then I had to accept part of my life was gone

Just a pointless moment

With meaningless words to be said

Then all that would be left

Is a future I’d come to dread

I was not in the mood

To be met by one who was

So short sighted

About what needed to be done

We were in disagreement

Minutes from coming on board

Totally different perspectives

With no chance of accord

Grateful when the ceremony was over

No more words to speak

Just the future to be faced

No matter how bleak

Sitting there pondering the options

Nothing much from which to choose

Either way I decide to jump

Everything to loose

Then the world fell apart

Everything I had ever known

Was gone in a heartbeat

Every dream I had flown

Who could have ever imagined

The worlds turned to dust

Changing all our lives

My previous options all lost

Now I face my destiny

Though I am ill prepared

Put on a brave face

Pretend I am not scared

Ihave become a leader

Of what remains of our race

Taking control of the situation

As we flee through hyperspace

I have the responsibility

for five million human souls

sharing the burden

despite our different goals

yet when the chips were down

I was surprised to find

Something I did not expect

An open mind…

A person who could put

Aside a lifetime of certain traditions

For the good of many

And the success of the mission

We come from different perspectives

Have opposite points of view

But we must make this partnership work

If humanity is to start anew
